  • AWSAD moved it's office to Kara, where the new safe house is located.
  • AWSAD's General Assembly was held on February 22, 2014 at the new safe house. Two board members who completed their terms of service were replaced by new male and female members.
    Currently, the board consists of two male and three female members.

BACKGROUND

Association for Women’s Sanctuary and Development (AWSAD) the former Tsotawi Tekat Tekelakay Mahiber (TTTM) is an Ethiopian Resident Charity Association established to advance women’s social and economic development and provide support for women and girls that faced physical and psychological harm. Association for Women’s Sanctuary and Development was first legally registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ethiopia in 2003 and with the issuance of the new Charity Societies Proclamation (CSP), AWSAD is reregistered and adopted its new name in November 2009.

The Association for Women’s Sanctuary and Development is committed to see a “violence free society”.

MISSION

The mission of AWSAD is to promote the socio-cultural well being and economic independence of women by providing psycho-social support and by strengthening the economic and social independence of women.
